When medication, lifestyle changes and other non-surgical treatments cannot relieve symptoms, surgery may be the next step in treatment. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a condition that may require a gynecologic surgery, urologic surgery or general surgery procedure, you owe it to yourself to learn about all of your medical options, including the most effective, least-invasive surgical treatments available.

The da Vinci® Surgical System provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy. It enables surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision.

    Small surgery, big benefits
Just like traditional laparoscopy, robotic surgery uses several small incisions to allow access for specialized surgical tools and a camera. The da Vinci system lets the surgeon work at a bedside control console, where his or her movements control the robotic arms.

The robotic arm has a wrist and you can turn it in all directions. This range of motion makes robotic-assisted surgery an option for more complicated procedures that traditional laparoscopy can’t handle. The three-dimensional, magnified image available with the da Vinci also gives the surgeon a superior view of the surgical field.

Patients of robotic-assisted procedures often leave the hospital and experience a recovery that is only a fraction of the time required for a more traditional operation. With only a few tiny incisions, your surgeon can perform complex surgery that offers you these potential benefits:

    • Significantly less pain
    • A faster recovery time
    • A shorter hospital stay
    • Less scarring
    • Decreased blood loss
