Progression and Growth

St. Mary-Corwin’s administrative team has a lot to be proud of. We want all of southern Colorado to know what we are doing to make this hospital the crown jewel of regional healthcare. Here are a few of the innovations and improvements that characterize the new strength and capability of St. Mary-Corwin:

  • $59 Million Expansion - In February 2006, St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center renewed its commitment to southern Colorado in providing superior healthcare by completing its $59 million expansion.  The building boasts a new Emergency Department; comprehensive, one-stop Cancer Center; innovative Intensive Care Unit; enhanced diagnostic services; 112 private patient rooms; a new central registration area; a new gift shop and many other improved hospital amenities.
  • Dorcy Cancer Center – People affected by cancer in southern Colorado have access to some of the newest treatments and technology available and the most compassionate caregivers in the Dorcy Cancer Center. The center utilizes Colorado's first Varian trilogy linear accelerator to pin-point the exact area of cancer to be treated.  In addition, the center recently opened the new Don Shugars Memorial Cancer Library to provide up-to-date information on cancer, treatment options, resources and more.  It houses a wig salon by the American Cancer Society, in addition to many other support services.
  • Stroke Center - St. Mary-Corwin‘s Stroke Center earned the “Gold Seal of Approval for healthcare quality from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). This certification acknowledges the high quality of care for acute stroke provided by St. Mary-Corwin. To earn this distinction, the program was evaluated according to Joint Commission standards.
  • Designated Trauma Center  – With the designated trauma center status, certified by the State of Colorado, we are recognized within the field for our excellent service in emergency, trauma and critical care treatment. With the Flight For Life Colorado helicopter base for Lifeguard 4, we are ready to assist in emergency situations and critical transport for all of southern Colorado.
  • Southern Colorado Family Medicine – SCFM is the only local residency training program in family practice, and is the largest residency program south of Denver.  These enthusiastic physicians further their medical education while providing vital, hands-on care to the economically disadvantaged in our community.
