Emergency Services at St. Mary-Corwin is comprised of a designated Trauma Center, Flight For Life Colorado, a disease-specific certified Stroke Center, and other related urgent care, emergency and trauma services. When emergency situations arise, southern Colorado can rest assure that we have the trauma professionals and advanced diagnostic services to care and treat patients with injuries from a sprained ankle to those who are critically ill. Should your emergency require more advanced care, Flight For Life Colorado's Lifeguard 4 makes the transfer of critically ill and injured patients much more time efficient than ground travel.
An outreach program extends the experience and knowledge of our professionals into rural communties in southern Colorado through outreach services and EMS/EMT Training opportunities. Should the need arise, St. Mary-Corwin is equipped with a Hazardous Materials Decontamination trailer and staff who have been trained in this area.
As a designated Trauma Center by the State of Colorado, St. Mary-Corwin provides southern Colorado with the utmost care in emergency and trauma services. With state-of-the-art technology and a dedicated team of trauma experts, we offer patient care throughout the continuum. Our services range from pre-hospital care and injury prevention, to specialized care in emergency and stroke, and all the way through the rehabilitation phase.
The emergency services team consists of physicians, nurses and support staff that are ready to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our trauma surgeons are Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certified and the emergency department physician's group has one of the highest longevity rates in the industry and in the state of Colorado. Our physicians, nurses and EMTs, specializing in stroke and emergency services, carry a wide range of specialized certifications and training to meet a full spectrum of emergency room demands. The Rapid Access System enables us to assemble the appropriate team of medical experts at the patient's bedside, and all within minutes.

That's why you will not be asked to provide any personal insurance or co-pay information until after you have been seen in the Emergency Room. After you are assessed for your illness or injuries by the triage nurse at the front desk, you will receive treatment by our dedicated physicians and nurses. Upon diagnosis and discharge, you will receive your discharge instructions and will then go to the discharge desk to complete paperwork. To help make your emergency room visit as easy as possible, bring your photo ID, insurance card and information, and a list of medications you are currently taking.
Flight For Life Colorado
Lifeguard 4 - the helicopter based at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center - has provided a valuable air ambulance service for southern Colorado communities since 2004 as part of the Flight For Life Colorado fleet. This is a tremendous benefit to Pueblo and the surrounding rural communities as we are ready to assist in emergency situations and critical care transport 24 hours a day. This capability makes the transfer of critically ill and injured patients much more time efficient. Flight For Life combines the rapid transportation, medical expertise and modern technology needed to make every minute count in an emergency.
Flight For Life is an extension of St. Mary-Corwin's emergency room and intensive care unit. With specialized training, expertise and years of experience, the flight crew of Lifeguard 4 has the capability to perform the same life-saving procedures in the helicopter that is performed in the ER or ICU at the hospital.
