• Diagnosis & Treatment

  • At St. Mary-Corwin’s Sleep Disorders Center, you can have confidence in your care and evaluation. Board-certified physicians direct the sleep disorders program and evaluate your results.

Having a sleep study in a hospital setting offers the highest degree of safety and security, especially for those who have more complex medical problems, such as cardiac disease. A board-certified Respiratory Therapist/Registered Polysomnographic Sleep Technologist will supervise your overnight stay.

Treatment or management of your sleep disorder may include:

    • Medications: For some patients, medications may help stimulate breathing.
    • Weight loss: Weight loss can be helpful for some patients.
    • Positional therapy: Avoiding certain sleeping positions such as sleeping on one's back can be helpful for some patients.
    • Surgical treatments: Surgery on the nose and/or throat can alleviate sleep apnea in some patients. Such surgeries are: LAUP, UUUP, Somnoplasty, Septoplasty, Mandibular advancement, and removing the tonsils.
    • Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP): This is a non-surgical mode of treatment that is effective in most patients. A nasal mask is worn during sleep. Positive pressure is delivered through this mask to prevent collapsing/obstructing of the airway during sleep.
