  • Inpatient Rehabilitation

  • Located on the fourth floor of St. Mary-Corwin, the rehab unit provides a safe environment with onsite access to consulting physicians, diagnostic procedures, specialized treatments and emergency care. This specialty unit provides inpatient rehabilitation care to meet the specialized needs of patients recovering from strokes, spinal cord injuries, neurologic disorders, multiple trauma and other complex orthopedic and medical conditions.

    A Team Approach

    Our team of professionals specializing in rehabilitation services work together to provide patients and their families with the support needed to meet their medical, physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Our goal is to help each patient achieve the highest degree of independence possible. Through essential training and education, our professionals are licensed and/or certified in their respective areas of expertise. Our dynamic team includes:

    • Medical director, Dr. Divakara Kedlaya, specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
    • Physical Therapy: evaluates and creates a personalized treatment program that is tailored to the patient's goals, and addresses functional mobility, strength, balance, and safety.
    • Occupational Therapy: evaluates and designs functional activity based therapy to promoted independence in the area of activities of daily living, home management, and community skills.
    • Speech-Language Pathology: evaluates and addresses issues that are related to swallowing dysfunction, cognitive remediation, and communicative disorders.
    • Rehabilitative Nursing: professional nurses certified and experienced in rehabilitation provide the medical care under the direction of a doctor of physical medicine and rehabilitation.
    • Social Work/Case Management: evaluates the patient home situation, provides families with information on community resources, coordinates discharge planning and offers support services.  A smooth and positive transition is made to the next level of care, whether it is assisted living or home.
    • Clinical Dietitian: evaluates the patient to determine nutritional risk and provide education to patients and family in principles of nutrition and modifications of a normal diet.
    • Pastoral Care: hospital chaplains are available 24 hours a day for spiritual care and support. 
    • Clinical Liaison: coordinates the clinical pre-admission screening for eligible patients and provides marketing and education support for referral sources; develops and maintains a patient referral base. 


    In addition to these team members, we also collaborate with other medical service providers to meet the needs of the patient and reach their individual rehabilitation goals. Examples of these additional partnerships include prosthetics, orthotics and behavioral health.
