From diagnosis through survivorship, the cancer journey is very stressful for patients and their families. Patients, partners and other family members can all suffer from depression, anxiety and stress. There are common factors that impact a family's distress level.
Cancer does changes lives - from the time of diagnosis, throughout treatment and then later throughout life. It tests the resilience of everyone involved. Battling cancer requires an abundance of positive attitude, expanded knowledge, a desire and will to heal, and a willingness to let others help.
The Dorcy Cancer Center at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center believes in the importance of healing the whole person in mind, body and spirit. The mind-body connection is especially important during cancer treatment. Therefore, we offer a wide range of Healing Arts classes, support groups and services designed to enhance quality of life, increase self-awareness, and help prevent and manage a broad range of physical and emotional symptoms.

HOPES Healing Arts - Bridging the Gap between Traditional Medicine & Holistic Health
Healing Arts classes are designed to provide exposure to a wide range of techniques and tools that can reduce stress and allow the patient or caregiver to experience therapies that will be helpful not only during the cancer experience but in the days to come. Our goal is to improve the cancer treatment experience. Complementary therapies are not meant to replace traditional treatments of surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy but to be used in conjunction with standard treatment.
Classes offered may include meditation, tai chi, low-impact aerobics, journaling and more. Classes are held in the Healing Arts Room on the upper level of the Dorcy Cancer Center. For patients undergoing treatment at the Dorcy Cancer Center, our Healing Arts program takes into account the whole person, body, mind, and spirit.
