St. Mary-Corwin Recruiting Patients to Participate in Pulmonary Rehabilitation

    March 20,2017

(PUEBLO, COLO.) St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center is recruiting patients to participate in a 12-week evidence based pulmonary rehabilitation program designed for people with chronic lung disease like COPD, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, interstitial lung disease or lung cancer beginning Tuesday, April 4 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Pulmonary rehab helps people with moderate to severe breathing problems overcome physical limitations resulting from their disease and aims to improve quality of life by decreasing respiratory symptoms and complications, encouraging self-management and control over daily functioning, improving physical conditioning, exercise performance and emotional well-being while reducing hospitalizations.

Pulmonary rehab is a program of exercise, education, and support to help individuals learn to breathe—and function—at the highest level possible. Each patient's individualized program begins with a comprehensive pulmonary evaluation by clinical experts in pulmonary rehabilitation. Through a carefully planned, integrated and individualized program of supervised physical conditioning, exercise, and educational and nutritional counseling, physical capacity is increased and the patient is empowered to overcome their shortness of breath.

There are many differences in scheduling, length and individual components of pulmonary rehab programs. Medicare and other insurance plans provide varying levels of coverage. If you’re interested in pulmonary rehab, discuss your options with your health care provider.

A physician referral is needed to participate in the pulmonary rehabilitation program. For more information, please call 719-557-3102.
